This photograph has won an award! I received notice today from Really Right Stuff that “The Announcement” has won honorable mention in their Spring contest. Really Right Stuff makes ultra high quality camera supports, including the ball head and quick release system I use on my tripod. Their contest draws excellent nature photographers from around the world. They award one first place and five honorable mentions, and I’m honored to receive this recognition! They said, “We loved the delicately curled flower petal and felt that it was a wonderful image that truly represented the Spring season.”

Brassica oleracea

Its name is from Latin caulis (cabbage) and flower, an acknowledgment of its unusual place among a family of food plants which normally produces only leafy greens for eating. Brassica oleracea also includes cabbage, brussels sprouts, kale, broccoli and collard greens, though they are of different cultivar groups.
